Osama
So everybody is talking about it, my history class, the people eating lunch one table over, facebook, tumblr, and i figured that since everyone needs to know my opinion about everything, i would chip in.
This feels wrong. I learned about his death when Phil and I were looking at his newsfeed, seeing things about vengeance and how much god loves america. People are reacting very strongly, and very emotionally to this death, but so what? We killed the man we used as an excuse to start wars, but the wars aren’t going to end, we still invaded countries, killed people, put the middle-eastern people in our own country through a lot of shit, if this is the end (which it obviously is not), does it justify the means?
Prof. Palenscar put it well when he said today in class,
“as a nation, we have never been able to admit our mistakes, so we must temper our victories”
I agree, and am also disgusted at the joyful response to the death itself. I can’t bring myself to jump and yell over a brutal killing. I heard (hearsay, not truth) that they mutilated his face beyond recognition.
I understand that this whole “terrorism” thing has been half of the lives of my generation, i lived in illinois during sept. 11th, but my dad was flying to washington dc that day, and to me that meant he must be dead. I did not hear from him for another few days because contact was so difficult, i was in gym class in 6th grade and i started crying. I get it. This is an emotional thing, but, in the words of a very wise lady whose blog you should look at, and which i will link,
“this should be an evening of reflection, not celebration”
