a late night walk inspired free write

it is 1 o’clock in the morning and i am floating again

it is a familiar feeling,

floating like sleeping in the backseat with a bed 50 feet away

floating like all my weights have been cut

my strings untied

it is dark and i cannot quite see the ground

the smooth side of my wrench is cool against my thumb

at 1 o’clock

everybody drives too fast and too bright

droplets hit my face and roll over my cheek and collar bones

like sparks of an idea i wont remember how to feel in the morning

like soundlines that hang below hemlines

my name is jackie, I’m with environment massachusetts and right now we are working to protect our drinking water

my name is jackie, i’m with masspirg and right now we are working to increase and expand recycling

my name is jackie, i’m with environment massachusetts and right now we are working to protect our rivers

my name is jackie, i’m with masspirg and we are still working to increase and expand recycling,

my name is jackie and i am still not sure who i represent or what i stand for

my name is jackie and streetlights turn off above me often enough to make me feel powerful

red and yellow lights pulse at 1 o’clock in the morning

drizzle like cool, soft pinpricks of presence on my face

engines are silent in the face of music in my ears,

water on the streets

it is 2 o’clock and for the hour it took me to walk home tonight, i was airborn
